All of the Hermetic science is contained on Hermes Trismegistus’ dogma, which is positively engraved in an Emerald Tablet (Tabula Smaragdina). Bellow you can see its Latin version and two translations:

A translation by Isaac Newton is found among his alchemical papers that are currently housed in King’s College Library, Cambridge University.
- Tis true without lying, certain & most true.
- That which is below is like that which is above & that which is above is like that which is below to do the miracles of one only thing
- And as all things have been & arose from one by the mediation of one: so all things have their birth from this one thing by adaptation.
- The Sun is its father, the moon its mother, the wind hath carried it in its belly, the earth is its nourse.
- The father of all perfection in the whole world is here.
- Its force or power is entire if it be converted into earth.
- Separate thou the earth from the fire, the subtile from the gross sweetly with great industry.
- It ascends from the earth to the heaven & again it descends to the earth & receives the force of things superior & inferior.
- By this means you shall have the glory of the whole world
- & thereby all obscurity shall fly from you.
- Its force is above all force. For it vanquishes every subtle thing & penetrates every solid thing.

Assim como todas as coisas são criadas de uma coisa, pela vontade e comando do único que a criou, assim todas as coisas são nascidas desta única coisa por prescrição e união.
Seu pai é o Sol, sua mãe é a Lua, o vento a carrega em seu ventre, sua ama é a Terra. Este é o pai da perfeição em todo o mundo. Seu poder é perfeito quando transformado em terra; por isto, deves separar a terra do fogo, e o sutil do rude e grosseiro, mas com amor, com grande compreensão e discernimento. As written by Eliphas Levi in its book “Doctrine and Ritual of High Magic”, what is written in the 7th point on Newton’s translation means that, in this purely internal operation, we need to separate the soul of all addictions and presumptions, what can be done using the philosophical salt, which is wisdom; using mercury, which is personal skills and industry; and, lastly, using sulfur, representing the vital energy and the warmth of the willingness. By this means you can transform into spiritual gold every less worthy things, including all earthly rubbish.
