The human being is especially affected by vision, his most accurate sense and the last to be awakened completely after birth, taking from 6 to 8 months for his full maturity and precision. Likewise, the questioning of what is seen is not frequent. Now, if we have a sense as accurate as that of vision, it would be natural for us to be equally ascertained in the criticism, investigation, and selection of what we wish to retain in terms of knowledge from our vision.
We can assume that a huge majority of people have seen crosses of the most varied types. It is quite possible that such a symbol awakens deep and peculiar sensations in each person. But how many wonder about that symbol, its origins and meanings?
The cross in Rosicrucianism has a profound meaning, which has nothing to do with the “torment” employed by Christians.
Every cross is composed of a certain “orthogonality” between two axes. In the case of the traditional cross, on which the Rose-Cross is mounted, the trunk or vertical axis represents Heaven, the space and the male polarity of life, while the trunk or horizontal axis represents the Earth, time and female polarity of nature. Taken together these two axes of the cross express the law of duality. The four arms formed by this figure represent the relationships we can establish not only with the four principles of nature but also with several other natural quaternary aspects.
Applied to the Rosicrucian Tradition, the two trunks of the cross, vertical and horizontal, symbolize the physical body of man and in general the terrestrial world through which man evolves from one life to another. The rose, at the intersection between both axes, symbolizes the soul personality of man in his progressive expansion throughout his incarnations. The rose has always been associated with spirituality in various traditions.
In its most noble expression, the Rose-Cross is forged in Gold, symbolizing material perfection. Applied to man, this metal represents the purity of the physical body, which we must achieve through the application of a harmonious life with natural and cosmic laws. The Rose, a ruby of five or seven facets, materializes the quintessence that infuses the whole Universe and together the three theological virtues (faith, hope and charity) and the four cardinal virtues (courage, justice, prudence and temperance).
In this way, the Rose-Cross represents at the same time the duality of human nature and the archetype to which we evolve physically and spiritually.
[Por]O que é uma cruz?
O ser humano é especialmente afetado pela visão, seu sentido mais apurado e o último a ser desperto completamente após o nascimento, levando de 6 a 8 meses para sua total maturidade e precisão. Assim mesmo, o questionamento sobre o que se vê não costuma ser frequente. Ora, se temos um sentido tão apurado quanto o da visão, natural seria que fossemos igualmente apurados na crítica, na investigação e na seleção daquilo que desejamos reter em termos de conhecimento a partir de nossa visão.
Podemos supor que uma enorme maioria das pessoas já viram cruzes dos mais variados tipos. É bem possível que tal símbolo desperte em cada pessoa sensações profundas e peculiares. Mas quantos se questionam sobre aquele símbolo, suas origens e significados?
A cruz no Rosacrucianismo possui um significado profundo, que nada tem a ver com o “suplício” empregado pelos cristãos.
Toda cruz é composta por uma certa “ortogonalidade” entre dois eixos. No caso da cruz tradicional, sobre a qual a Rosa-Cruz é montada, o tronco ou eixo vertical representa o Céu, o espaço e a polaridade masculina da vida, enquanto o tronco ou eixo horizontal representa a Terra, o tempo e a polaridade feminina da natureza. Considerados juntos estes dois eixos da cruz expressam a lei da dualidade. Os quatro braços formados por esta figura representam as relações que podemos estabelecer não somente com os quatro princípios da natureza mas também com vários outros aspectos quaternários naturais.
Aplicada à Tradição Rosacruz, os dois troncos da cruz, vertical e horizontal, simbolizam o corpo físico do homem e de um modo geral o mundo terrestre através do qual o homem evolui de uma vida para a outra. Já a rosa, na interseção entre ambos os eixos, simboliza a personalidade alma do homem em suas expansão progressiva ao longo de suas encarnações. A rosa sempre foi associada à espiritualidade em diversas tradições.
Em sua expressão mais nobre, a cruz Rosa-Cruz é forjada em Ouro, simbolizando a perfeição material. Aplicado ao homem, esse metal representa a pureza do corpo físico, que devemos atingir através da aplicação de uma vida harmoniosa com as leis naturais e cósmicas. Já a Rosa, um rubi de cinco ou sete facetas, materializa a quintessência que infunde todo o Universo e conjuntamente as três virtudes teologais (fé, esperança e caridade) e as quatro virtudes cardeais (coragem, justiça, prudência e temperança).
Desta forma, a Rosa-Cruz representa ao mesmo tempo a dualidade da natureza humana e o arquétipo para o qual evoluímos física e espiritualmente.
